Are you an experienced PHP and Laravel developer with a passion for web security? Do tools like PHPCS and PHPStan sound familiar to you? At Patchstack, we’re looking for a Senior Backend Developer to help us secure millions of web applications. If you’re excited to work in a fully remote, globally distributed company with a focus on security, we want to hear from you!

As a Cybersecurity company, Patchstack helps developers and organizations identify and patch vulnerabilities in open-source code. Our community-driven approach is powered by Patchstack Alliance, a gamified bug bounty program.

We’re seeking a developer who has a genuine interest in web security and is eager to build modern, web-based PHP applications using Laravel.

What We Do:

  • SaaS Solution: Detect and virtually patch plugin vulnerabilities.
  • Bug Bounty Platform: Patchstack Alliance – a community-driven bug bounty platform for WordPress ecosystem security.
  • Vulnerability Database: An open, free WordPress vulnerability database.
  • Code Review & Auditing: Provide professional security code reviews for WordPress plugins.

What We’re Looking For:

We need a self-disciplined professional who excels at communication and has a strong command of the English language. You’ll thrive in a fast-paced startup environment and contribute to both the technical development and strategic direction of our growing company.

You should be someone who enjoys working autonomously, has a solution-oriented mindset, and isn’t afraid to tackle tasks beyond everyday responsibilities.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain web-based PHP applications using Laravel.
  • Refactor existing code to integrate new features and standards (PHP 8).
  • Write unit tests and document new features and processes.
  • Collaborate with the team to communicate progress and status of tasks.

Required Skills:

  • Timezone: EEST (+/- 2 hours)
  • Proficiency in PHP and Laravel.
  • Familiar with tools like PHPCS and PHPStan.
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
  • SQL skills for writing performant queries and designing schema.
  • Experience with MVC frameworks and SPA.
  • Familiar with version control tools like Git.
  • Ability to write clean, reusable code.
  • Focus on security and performance.
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
  • Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Vue.js, NuxtJS, AWS, and Python.
  • Prior experience as a developer in a remote team.
  • Familiarity with WordPress or other PHP-based CMS.
  • Industry certifications.
