Primary Responsibilities
The Home Support Worker will take on a variety of responsibilities aimed at improving the client’s quality of life, including:
Personal Care Assistance
- Assisting with daily personal care tasks, such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and hygiene.
- Helping with mobility, including transferring from bed to wheelchair and walking assistance.
- Monitoring toileting needs, including incontinence care and diaper changes.
Meal Preparation and Feeding
- Preparing nutritious meals that meet the client’s dietary needs or preferences.
- Assisting with feeding and ensuring proper hydration.
Companionship and Emotional Support
- Providing companionship to alleviate loneliness and promote emotional well-being.
- Engaging the client in recreational activities like reading, puzzles, or light exercise.
Household Assistance
- Performing light housekeeping tasks, such as cleaning, laundry, and dishwashing.
- Running errands or assisting with grocery shopping when needed.
Health Monitoring and Safety
- Observing and documenting changes in the client’s physical or mental health.
- Maintaining a safe and hazard-free environment in the home.
Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and certifications:
- Empathy and Compassion: A caring and patient attitude towards clients.
- Physical Stamina: The ability to assist with mobility and perform light physical tasks.
- Organizational Skills: Maintaining schedules, appointments, and daily routines effectively.
- Communication Skills: Clear and professional interaction with clients and their families.
- First Aid and CPR Certification: Preferred but not mandatory.
Education and Experience
- Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
- Experience: 7 months to less than 1 year in a caregiving or support role.
